According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) a veneer is a “thin piece of porcelain used to re-create the natural look of teeth, while also providing strength and resilience comparable to natural tooth enamel.” Veneers are considered cosmetic restorations as they are used to straighten your smile and brighten your teeth. They also can also be used to close small gaps and repair fractures or chips.
Dr. Fernandez and Dr. Cox make many veneers in our office using CAD/CAM technology. Veneers made in our office can be delivered in one visit. If a laboratory is making the veneers, the process may take a couple of visits. Once the veneer is complete, it is bonded to your tooth with resin cement. One benefit of veneers is that they are difficult to stain. They should be cared for just like you should care for your natural teeth, by brushing 2-3 times a day and flossing daily.
